The inhabitants of the Cape Rouge had a way of dealing with traumatic events, and that way was getting very, very far away from where the traumatic events had happened for a while. But it was winter, and cold, and something about recent events hadn't left Lucifer particularly predisposed to the Bahamas.

No, they needed a place that was equal parts Duke and Octavia, to remind them all of who Octavia and Duke were, specifically.

And so Lucifer had found this island, put down a not inconsiderable amount of money, and told his partners they were leaving.

He had not told them where. But, as the portal opened onto the warm, green island, he didn't think they'd disapprove. "And here we are."

Octavia just sort of... glid fully into the water as soon it was possible.

She gave a happy sigh, not that either of them heard it, probably.

Duke turned to look at Lucifer, just in time to catch that glide.

“You’re looking good, Tavi,” he said. “Very natural!”

"Like a dolphin," Lucifer agreed.

He set down his clothes. Now fully in the nude, he strode into the water at a much more jaunty pace.

Octavia really did seem remarkably more comfortable and confident in the water than she had on their last trip to the Bahamas, now. There would probably only be limited 'swimming in a circle around them just in case' this time.

"Not like a shark?"

"You're very shark-like now you're in the water," Duke assured her. "Dolphins are better known for their water-entry abilities, that's all."

"Sharks have a bit more trouble breathing outside the water," Lucifer added. "You really do not want to jump into water like a shark. It'd be more like an embarrassing wiggle."

He put one foot in the water, the nthe other.

"Hey, no disrespecting sharks," Octavia protested with a snort. "That's uncalled for."

"Not disrespect," Duke said. "Just facts." He swam closer to her. "There's nothing disrespectful about knowing something's strengths and weaknesses, is there?"

"Sharks are better off in the water," Lucifer agreed, wading in until said water came up to his waist. "We're all aware."

"And right now, I'm better off in the water," Octavia concluded.

Even if she was going to have to go back to shore for sunscreen sooner rather than later.

"And now you're a shark," Duke agreed. He gave her a little teeth gnash and a grin, then dove under to catch her playfully by the legs.

"Positively finrona," Lucifer agreed, pushing forward and kicking his legs out, so he could go join them.

Octavia totally didn't shriek (yes she did) before she tried to swim away from Duke.

But not too much, or with too much effort. Where would the fun have been in that?

Duke surfaced with a laugh. "Shark got sharked?"

"What's a shark predator?" Lucifer wondered.

... and promptly tried to dunk Duke because, well. Why not?

Octavia was perfectly happy to stay out of it. In fact, she even took her chance to swim a little further away from the scuffle.

Duke allowed himself to be dunked, and surfaced again, still laughing.

This was the life. Playing with his partners in the water, naked and warm and happy.

Could they maybe stay here forever?

"She's getting away," Lucifer told Duke very seriously.

This was entirely his fault, but who cared?

"That's what you get with a finrona," Octavia called, before actually diving under the surface, all the better to escape from them.

(This really was the life.)

"Oh no," Duke said, clearly very concerned with her escape. "Whatever shall I do."

Dunk the Devil in return before swimming after her, of course!

"How dare you!" Lucifer bellowed, gleefully, as he resurfaced.

Octavia resurfaced a little ways away, but not so far that it wouldn't be pretty easy for Duke to catch her.

It was ridiculous. All of this.

Duke stopped chasing Octavia long enough to turn around, stick his thumbs in his ears with his fingers spread and stick his tongue out.

What? Sometimes it was fun to be all of five years old again!
