Octavia's gaze was cast towards the horizon. As she quieted down to focus on the task at hand, she was mapping things out in her head. Where to go, how to get there.

What she wanted.

And Lucifer just... watched. Occasionally taking a sip from his flask, but mainly just captivated by the certainty in her movements.

He did enjoy being on Samsara. It was so... her.

Octavia had really taken to every aspect of owning a boat, hadn't she? Both having her own space (finally), as well as just putting her all into learning how to care for it - and how to sail with it.

Like right now. Calm, and quiet, and at ease with the way the Samsara glid along the water.

Eventually, she spotted a long stretch of beach in the distance. Began steering them towards it.

"Found our resting place?" Lucifer asked, glancing towards the coast.

"Think so," Octavia said, pointing towards what she had her eye on. "Looks quiet."

"Good," Lucifer said, and fell silent again.

Octavia got them there, bringing the boat just close enough to the beach taht it felt like they were by it, but not so close as for the boat to get in any kind of trouble.

Everything out on the beach itself looked quiet and still, aside from the gentle waves against the shoreline.

"Here we are," Octavia murmured. "I'm gonna drop anchor here."

"Yes, ma'am," Lucifer said, amusement in his voice. "Can I help you with that, or are you good?"

"Do you know how to help with that?"

Tavi, you could just say 'no, I'm good'.

"I can lift things that need to be lifted and put things down that need to be put down?" Lucifer offered.

He was better at the interior decorating part.

Octavia shook her head a little. "No, I'm good."

See?

"I do this all on my own, sometimes." And managed, so: "I think you already had something else planned, anyway."

"I was going to set up some candles around the boat," Lucifer agreed. "And some pillows downstairs, if that's all right with you?"

Octavia's expression went a little thoughtful.

"Don't you think the candles are a fire hazard?"

"Depends on where we put them," Lucifer pointed out. "And how. I did bring some candle holders."

"I don't know how much those help on a boat this small."

"No candles, then," Lucifer said easily, content to let this one go. "I have other lights."

"Good," Octavia said, giving him a tiny, wry smile. "I think I'll feel better about those."

Surprisingly she wasn't great about actual candles in small spaces, no.

"So I can focus on other things."

"Mm, the important things," Lucifer agreed, smiling. "Shall I go get what I have so you can see?"

Octavia nodded. "Sure."

And she'd get to work on the anchor.

Lucifer tossed her another soft smile and slipped back into the ship, rummaging around for his bag.

Octavia did all she needed to do, from dropping the anchor to shutting off the engine.

Then just stood at the back of the deck and looked across the water towards the empty beach.

"So I have a few of these," Lucifer said, as he came up the stairs holding a jar. "I know, it's a bit old-fashioned at this point, but..."

One of the great things about Octavia was that, depending on the point of view, either everything was outdated by a hundred years, or many things were completely new to her.

And she knew which way she felt as she turned to look at the jar he was holding.

"It's beautiful."

"I thought you might like it," Lucifer admitted. "They're almost like fireflies. A jar full of fairy lights."

"Yeah," Octavia said, with a soft quality that kind of betrayed how she'd also been thinking exactly that. Even if she covered for it with a slightly more wry, "And they won't set my boat on fire."
