Sunday had been Date Night for Lucifer and Octavia, as always. On Monday, Lucifer had gotten it into his head he wanted to do something for Duke. 'Something' had turned out to be a nice home-cooked meal and some time out on the water.

And while Lucifer had contemplated taking the show to his house, as he did with Octavia-- something within him had craved... well, this.

The gentle sway of the water beneath the boat - permanent background radiation now of his life - lulling him into an easy calm as he flopped over onto his back on the bed, still catching his breath. "I can't believe how much I like this bed," he mumbled, inanely.

He'd make sense of it in a moment.

"It's a good bed," Duke said faintly muzzy from his own post-coital high. He stretched a little and then rolled onto his side to face Lucifer. "I built the frame myself."

Lucifer let go of whatever train of thought had left him to comment on the bed for a moment, distracted by both Duke's comment and his stretching. "Why did you make it so big?" he asked. "'s a brilliant bit of foresight."

Duke let out a low chuckle against Lucifer's arm. "Had the space for it, so why not?"

He'd spent too many nights growing up jammed into tiny spaces, wishing for room to sprawl. When it was time to make his own space, he kind of exploded.

"Good thought," Lucifer sighed, sprawling a bit more until his and Duke's leg were basically occupying the same space. "But no, it's the, uh. The swaying. It's nice."

"It is," Duke agreed. "Careful, or you'll get as addicted to it as I am."

"I think I'm getting there," Lucifer admitted. "Which is disturbing, frankly."

Duke huffed. "Because you're becoming a boat person?"

"Can't say I ever imagined myself wanting to live in a place like this," Lucifer said. He pressed a kiss to the top of Duke's head. "I let you convert me, you bloody madman."

"You and Octavia," Duke said, humming happily. "I an influencer."

"I hope not, they're insufferable," Lucifer sighed.

He pulled Duke further on top of himself.

Duke let him, sprawling across his side.

"Is this the part where I point out that both you and Octavia just moved yourselves onto my boat? You could have asked us to start staying at your house all the time."

"You weren't doing very well," Lucifer pointed out. "Taking you off the boat felt counterproductive."

Duke tried to remember what had been going on back then. Something with Haven? With Octavia?

It all blurred together.

“You’re just determined to take care of me, huh.”

"You take care of me," Lucifer said, wrapping his arms firmly around him. "Seems rather fair. Besides, you love this boat more than I love my mansion."

Duke found himself suddenly, absurdly self conscious.

“Yeah,” he said, pressing his face into Lucifer’s shoulder. “Me and my boat are a little codependent.”

"Bit of a funny way of describing it," Lucifer said, raising an eyebrow (that Duke couldn't see, but still).

It was alright, Duke could hear the eyebrow in Lucifer’s tone.

“True. The Rouge would probably be fine without me.”

"Please, it would rust and sink down to the bottom of the sea," Lucifer said. He didn't know why he'd just started rubbing Duke's back soothingly, but there you were. "It's your home, not a toxic girlfriend."

“It’s an inanimate object,” Duke agreed, with a self/effacing laugh. He kind of wanted to apologize for getting weird, but that would draw too much attention to the fact that he’d gotten weird. “Anyway. Tell me more about how you love our bed.”

Lucifer let out a soft huff, but he let it go. For now, at least. "Oh, I just had been contemplating taking you to the house tonight," he said. "And then I realized I'd rather be in here instead. Struck me again a minute ago, that's all."

“I’m happy either way, you know. But I’m very glad you’ve been converted to the glories of the boat life.”

"It would still be better if this boat was twice as big and had space for a hot tub," Lucifer sighed, "But you've already built me three rooms as it is."

“I want you to be comfortable,” Duke said, rubbing little circles on Lucifer’s chest.

And to make sure Lucifer didn’t get tired of how much care and feeding Duke seemed to require these days.

"I know," Lucifer said. His fingers trailed up and down Duke's spine. "I love how you've made a place for me here. I suppose after that weekend, I..."

He looked up at the ceiling.
